2015 - the year that was

January 1, 2016

2015 was a fairly eventful year.  Though I'm pretty sure I say that about every year.  I thought the start of a new year would be the perfect day to reflect upon the year that was.

Personally

2015 bought some massive changes in my personal life.  Buying my first home was probably the scariest thing I've ever done, it's a massive commitment, a huge sum of money and the most rewarding thing I've ever done.  Seriously one of the best things in the world is being able to hang pictures on the walls

Work was hard for the last five or so months of the year.  Basically it involved me applying for an internal promotion, not getting it but still having to do the job while there was no one in the role and help train the new guy. Needless to say that had made things harder than it should have.  Thankfully I work with the best people so I really can't complain overall.  Lets just hope next year is better!

Some personal highlights of 2015 include my sister, brother in law and nephews moving home from London after eight years.  The even better bit is they moved into a house 400m (or a 3 minute scoot) away from my other sister.  It is seriously wonderful having everyone that close together.

There were some other tough bits and some things that aren't my place to share, however miracles do happen and that is a wonderful thing.

Sewing & Blogging

2015 saw me start blogging and stick at it.  I think 94 posts proves that.  Sometimes it was 3 times a week, sometimes it was twice a month.  I would love to be able to blog all the time, however I need money to live (and make those house payments) so it just has to fit in where it can.

This blogging journey also saw my sewing passions change drastically.  I had been quite a prolific quilter and this year saw me transition to sewing clothes and then into lingerie.  I'm pleased to report I think I've found my passion.

A few stats -
1 Bikini
4 Dresses
1 Teddy Bear
2 Skirts
2 Tops
2 Sets of kids clothes
2 Rompers
14 Bras
14 Knickers

Surprisingly not all the bras and knickers are matching sets, thats just how thing worked out.  Also 14 is my lucky number so I'm taking it as a sign!

My favourite makes are

Jasmine Bra

This Jasmine Bra was the turning point for me when I realised I could make my own lingerie and not have to buy it all.  It's going to be one of my favourites for a long time.

Watson Bra and Betty Knickers

My first Watson, it was never going to be my last but I seriously love this fabric.

Red Lace Watson Bra

Again, another Watson, this red lace one is in a high rotation in my wardrobe, it;s slightly more practical than a longline for every day wear.

Sequins & Velvet Bra Collection

My Sequin and Velvet collection was just fun to make, not in the least practical but it doesn't make it any less loved.

Vintage Floral Boylston Bra

This Boylston, again I think it probably has a lot to do with the fabric, but again it's in a regular rotation in my wardrobe so that is always the sign of a good make,

Mermaid Bikini

My Mermaid Bikini, I'm just so proud of it, even if it's far from perfect.

There were a few fails this year as well, most of them never made it onto the blog though, maybe I need to start blogging fails when they happen, no one is perfect and sometimes it's good to air them rather than keep than in the naughty box in the back of the cupboard.

2016

My plans for 2016 are pretty simple.  Be happy, say yes, learn to say no (how's that for being contradictory!), go to the gym three times a week, spend more time doing what makes me happy.and drag my kitchen out of the 1980's.

I plan to keep blogging and keep sewing.  I have some dresses I'd like to make and more bras in the works.  I'd like to share some photos of my house when it's a bit more decorated.

I've also got a blog makeover in the works so be sure to check back to see what changes are happening.

Happy New Year!

Emma

    1. Bra sewing really is the best sewing! Thanks for all the inspiration this year Erin! I'm super keen to cut into my kits but I just want to be sure on the pattern first. Hopefully you'll see the finished results soon :)
