Sometimes I still quilt....

January 31, 2016

Quilting was what got me into sewing.  The first thing I really ever made, out of a school home economics class was a quilt for my nephew.  That was about five and a half years ago now, in fact he starts school this week. Since then I've made quite a number of quilts, some have taken months, some hours, some are big, some are small, however all are made with love.  This one is no different.  I signed up for a swap on Instagram before Christmas and this was what I created.

I used V & Co's wonderful ombre fabrics to create this mini.  I honestly wished I could have kept it, but I can always make another.

The photo includes some of the little extras I included in the parcel, and a few blocks of chocolate.  A girl can never have too much chocolate!

I've also just started another quilt, I'm hoping it looks as amazing when finished as it does in my head, saying that progress is looking good!

Aussie Apron Strings Swap

July 6, 2015

I participated in the Aussie Apron Strings Swap hosted by Lyrebird Lamb over on instagram.

I had the pleasure of sewing for Holly.  She wanted a half apron and said her favourite colour was yellow.  This is what I came up with.

I used my ruffler foot to create the ruffle at the bottom.  It really makes a difference.

I received the wonderful apron below from Michelle of Cole and Taffy.  I love, love, love it!

It is lovely!  I can't wait to wear it when I do some baking.

Have you ever signed up for any swaps over Instagram?

For the Love of Bonnie and Camille Swap

February 13, 2015

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Instagram?  Well if I haven't the answer is a whole lot!  It is my favourite form of social media (Followed closely by Pinterest).  One of the things I really love about Instagram is the whole sewing & quilting community you can find on there.  Everyone is so open and friendly, it really is a special place on the 'net.

Anyway, I recently signed up for the 'For the Love of Bonnie and Camille Swap' (#fortheloveofbandcswap) hosted by the wonderful Sam.  I was a member of the #blissblossoms group and was lucky enough to be able to send Susan a gift :)

She mentioned she wasn't a quilter as such so I thought I needed to make her quilt, or at least a mini one!  I made a Mini 'Piece of Cake 2', adapted from the original pattern by Camille Roskelley, using Vintage Modern fabric.

I tried something new for me with some organic straight line quilting, I love the texture it gave!

I also added a few other little bits including a pin cushion, zippered pouch, Bonnie and Camille fabric (A FQ and some scraps) chocolates and some tea bags.
