So this is a totally random post, but I thought it would be good to write a list of the things I've learnt about myself and singledom in general. It's not sewing related, but an interesting post never the less. Plus I thought it would be good to have a record.
I learnt who my friends are
This probably sounds a little cliche, but it's true. I know I lost friends as a direct result of my last break up but I also found out who my real friends are. I've always believed the old adage that it is better to have a few friends you can be certain of rather than a certain number of friends, it is certainly true.
I learnt it's okay to be lonely sometimes
Sometimes I get lonely, it's probably the hardest part of being single. No one to complain to about a hard day at work, no one to hug you when you're down. Those few things are probably what I struggle with the most. It's hard not having that person you can tell everything to.
I learnt I'm stronger than I think
When I first got dumped (by the guy I thought I would spend my whole life with) I didn't think I could live without him. Turns out I can. I'm way more successful single than I would have been if we were together. But more about that later.
I learnt time heals
It's another one of those cliches, and if you just broke up with someone it's also the last thing you want to hear, but it is true. The first few months were awful, then things gradually got better. Time changes things, it changes people.
I discovered my passions
I took the time to rediscover my passions and find some new ones. I have been quilting for a while but dressmaking & bra making came post breakup. I've got more responsibilities at Guides and I now go to the gym three mornings a week. All these things make up my 'me time' and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I learnt who I am
I got to rediscover me, what makes me happy, what my passions are, my likes and dislikes. I still dislike clubbing, I still like pizza. But overall I think I now know more about myself than I ever did.
I learnt I don't need a guy
Don't get me wrong, having a boyfriend is nice, but I certainly don't need one. The (nearly) two years I've been single have been pretty big for me. I paid off my car (in a year), bought a house and raised $5000 for my guide unit. Who says you need a guy (or two incomes) to achieve most of this?
I learnt sometimes it's okay to not like being single
I mean overall I'm not complaining and I'm certainly not going to get into a relationship with the wrong person just to be in a relationship, but sometimes being single just sucks. Like when you're sick and there is no food in the house. As a single person generally the two options you have are either starve or suck it up and go and get food. This generally wouldn't happen if you were in a relationship :)
Anyway, I hope you enjoy a little bit more insight into me as a person and back to sewing posts next time. Promise :)

Small Blog Meet Up
May 1, 2015
One of the hardest things about being a new blogger, well except actually having the time to blog, is getting your blog out there. However one of the best ways I've found is to join in link ups.
Today I'm joining in the Small Blog Link Up over at Lily's Quilts. It's a great way to get to know other small bloggers and find some new blogs to follow too! Simply click on the button below to check them out :) If you're visiting for Lily's Quilts, Hi and Welcome! Find out a bit more about me at my About Me page :)

I've also been doing a bit of knitting lately, I've had the wool for years and finally decided to pull it out. I also have two balls which is the prefect length for a scarf :)

My Latest Sewing Fails
April 21, 2015
I've been having one of those weeks. It started off about this time last week when I had gone out of my way to do something for someone (on my birthday no less) and they then treated me rather appallingly. Sadly I didn't think of the perfect come back until about 12 hours later. Isn't that always the way?
Anyway my sewing hasn't been working out this week either.
It could be the skirt that is well made but appears to show that my waist size isn't the same as it was a few months ago.
Or it could be the shirt that worked really well on the muslin but not as well in practice.

Or the other skirt where when I tried to correct some of the flaws in the previous skirt that this one ended up looking worse.

Or it could be the shirt that worked really well on the muslin but not as well in practice.

Or the pyjama pants I want to make but can only find one piece of my two piece pattern.

Anyway, its only fabric and most of it can be fixed one way or another. Tomorrow is another day and time for another stitch.

22 Things you probably don't know about me
April 4, 2015
In the lead up to the 22nd Birthday I thought I would share a few things about myself you probably don't know. Also because I haven't really done any sewing lately with painting and removing laminate floor and such.
Emma
- I know way more about concrete and aggregates than most girls my age. I started working for my current employer in an Aggregate and Concrete Laboratory doing data entry and compressive strength testing on concrete. It was really an interesting job, I can now tell you all about different concrete strengths and how to decipher mix codes. After just over 12 months I moved to a different role as an Administration Officer for the local concrete area office.
- I work with the best people ever. Seriously I love going to work these days. From bosses who let you hide in their office from people you don't want to see, to people who change you're tyre for you when it's flat. Seriously. best. people. ever.
- My favourite fabric designers are Sweetwater and Bonnie and Camille. Vanessa Christenson is right up there too! I think it's pretty obvious why.
- Denyse Schmidt once liked a photo of a quilt I posted on facebook.
- I have four nephews and no nieces. I do have a few adopted nieces I can sew for through when I feel the urge to sew cute little girl things :)
- My sisters are 18 & 15 years older than me. I have a kinda complicated family tree.
- I have been to the UK twice. Once when I was 15 and again at 18 when I did my compulsory eurotrip.
- I am single and pretty happy to be that way at the moment. Its going to take someone pretty special to change that. Especially considering my last break up.
- I have the best family ever. So this one might be subjective but I know they're pretty awesome. Who else gives up weekends to help you paint and helps you move without a second thought. Not to mention when one of my sisters and I were visiting our other sister in London my Mum and Nan were invited to my BIL's families Christmas.
- I've been un-invited to Christmas (This helped contribute to point #8)
- I am stubborn - Just ask my mother
- I have more UFO's than I want to count.
- I paid off my car within 15 months - most of that I was only working part time. I guess #11 does have its benefits
- I don't drink coffee. It gives me a headache which is not worth the little buzz from the caffeine. It's also not the caffeine because I can drink coke and it's not an issue.
- I have a dog named Bentley. He is the most adorable King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. His nickname is Floppy because he has adorable floppy ears.
- When I was 12 we got a dog named Cherry. I use to say she was mine, but in reality she is mums.
- I use to own horses, Louis and Gene. I fell off and broke my wrist when I tried to jump on bareback. Louis is now with the Queensland Police Stock Squad doing what he was bred to do. Gene is now competing in competitions around QLD. And I no longer ride
- I am happy to stay home and sew on a Friday or Saturday night. Or in this case write a blog post!
- When I finished high school I wanted to be a photographer. Now I don't remember the last time I picked up my DSLR. :(
- My favourite TV shows are Greys Anatomy and Gilmore Girls! I also have a bit of a thing for reality TV like The Block.
- One day I would love to either design fabric or patterns. Maybe both. I guess this is my plan for a few years down the track.
- My favourite colour is that colour between Teal and Aqua that is really popular at the moment. Thankfully that doesn't stop me from loving it!
