Handmade Tuesday #8 - Does it count if its not sewing?

April 7, 2015

So I haven't had a chance to get much sewing done lately, partly because this new house thing is kicking me and partly cause my sewing room is half packed up. I did cut out a pattern last night though!

I didn't wear anything handmade today (not even my undies!),  though I am pretty proud of what I did get up to over the weekend.

Taubmans Winter Mist

TA-DA!  It's more exciting than it looks I promise!  We painted and hung blinds and removed carpet and lino from my unit over the weekend.  It doesn't look as impressive in this picture though the before and after below looks much better!

See the difference!  The colour is much better is person, its the perfect light grey that reads blue not green.  I love it.  It's Taubmans Winter Mist for those wondering.

The flooring goes down tomorrow and I'll share some when I have furniture (and fabric) in!

What was your first home like?

Handmade Tuesday #7 - Grace Knickers

March 24, 2015

No dodgy mirror selfie today :)  Instead there is actually no photo of me wearing my handmade creation today.  That's for one simple reason, what I made isn't really meant to be seen by the general population, at least not on my body anyway!

That's because I made some knickers!  I wanted to sew something a bit different and when I came across Ohhh Lulu the other week I knew what it was.  Sarah not only sells her creations through her Etsy store, she also sells patterns on Etsy and Craftsy!  I purchased her Grace Knickers pattern and found them fantastic for someone who has never sewn lingerie before.  To start with there were only 4 pattern pieces and 5 pieces of fabric to cut and I was able to whip up my first pair in no time at all (I didn't time it but I'd say somewhere between 1-2.5hrs from pulling fabric to wearable).

Ohhh Lulu Grace Knickers

The Grace Knickers have a bias cut woven front and back and stretch sides.  In this pair I used a dot poplin from Spotlight and some stretch lace. They finish with a double needle around the legs and elastic on the waist.  I've cut out about another 5 pairs or so and just need to finish them off before I have enough handmade undies to last the week.

Have you ever made any lingerie before?

Handmade Tuesday #5 - 1/2 Skirt 2.0

February 17, 2015

Wearing this old favourite again.  Same clothes, different view.  I also need to learn that I should check out weather forecasts for the day when I wear this.  I nearly flashed people today. twice. -_-

Handmade Tuesday #4 - Dandelion Pyjamas

February 10, 2015

Another Tuesday, another dodgy mirror selfie.  I'll get better photos one day I promise.

This week I'm wearing my favourite pyjamas.  The top is a Colette Sorbetto (Free downloadable pattern) and the pants are a Simplicity PJ pattern (I can't remember the number, though I think they are all the same.

The pants are a dandelion (I LOVE Dandelions!) print from Spotlight and the top is a rayon from Spotlight with bias binding made from the pants fabric.

They are incredibly comfy and I will admit to wearing them a bit too often!

Handmade Tuesday #3 - Knit Pencil Skirt

February 3, 2015

A very old make on today.  I made this super simple skirt about four or five years ago with a 'crinkle knit' from Spotlight. It's just a straight skirt, as in I cut what I needed for the waist and then straight down.  Being a knit it manages to give it a nice shape too. It's on an exposed elastic waistband and I've had multiple compliments when I've worn it which is always a lovely feeling!

Sorry about the dodgy mirror selfie!

Handmade Tuesday #2 - Dotty Rayon 1/2 Circle Skirt

January 27, 2015

I missed Handmade Tuesday last week.  To be brutally honest I just forgot.  I've forgiven myself considering I spent last Monday in bed and struggled enough getting out of bed for work Tuesday morning let alone thinking of something nice to wear :)

This week is my handmade outfit is one of my favourites, its a half circle skirt made in rayon. Rayon has to be one of my favourite fabrics ever!  Its so soft and drapey and flowy, I love it!

I like using this calculator App from By Hand London to work out my measurements, it makes life so much easier!

You'll also probably start to notice that my shirts remain the same, it's just a work uniform shirt and I haven't really branched into shirts yet!

Anyway, enjoy your Tuesday and I hope your Australia Day was well spent :)
