Some of my Quilts #14 - Ombre quilt

I bought a Simply Color Ombre Junior Jelly Roll by V and Co because I fell in love with it.  Of course I couldn't bring myself to open it until I found the prefect pattern.  Thankfully that happened rather quickly when I stumbled upon this Ombre Rainbow Quilt by The Girl Who Quilts.  

I quilted over the ombre sections in figure of eights using threads I pulled from my thread stash.  Thankfully due to the ombre effect of the fabrics it was easy to find a thread that blended at some point.

I used a purple chevron poplin from Spotlight for the backing and a Michael Miller fabric from East Coast Fabrics for the binding.

The only thing I wish was different about this quilt was the size!  Wouldn't wide back ombre prints be amazing!

Sunday Stash #7 - This is why you visit you LQS

I love online shopping. It's easy, it's convenient, I don't need to get out of my pyjamas. But I really do encourage you all to check out your local quilt shop from time to time. Especially as they often tend to hold stock longer than their online counterparts.

One of my local quilt shops is horendous at keeping old stock at full price.  By old stock I mean years old.  It had been so bad and so expensive I rarely went.

However I was out there with some friends and decided to check it out.  I am SO glad I did.  I scored big time.

Two ombre junior jelly roles by V and Co from her first line Simply Color!  For only $20 each!

I have already made a quilt using one of these jelly rolls before, but for these I have plans to make a Metro Rings quilt.  I think it will look FAB!

I mean just look how delicious they are!

#SewMyStash 2015

I have quite a fabric stash.  I rolled 90% of my fabric before Christmas and calculated that I have over 100m of yardage!  That only includes pieces a 1/2 metre of over.  It doesn't include any of my precuts (eek!)

I figured I might try and chronicle some of the things I want to sew on my quilty  bucket list.  Or at least make myself accountable for sewing things in my stash.  See this post by Leasa for more info.

I am in love with this quilt by Camille! So much so I'm thinking about opening up my prized 'Make Life' Fat Quarter Bundle to make one similar!

I'm collecting charm packs.  With the intention of one day making a bed quilt using all of my favourite fabric collections.  This is my collection so far, it really does include some special collections!

  

 



 

Mixing these two together...  Somehow for something, maybe a baby boy quilt.  If I ever need to make one that is!

 

 

 

Using Cotton and Steel Basics for the Chic Stars quilt using the Quick Curve Ruler.

 

 I'm going to need to make a blue quilt using my blue stash, this is just part of it!

 

 

When I went overseas in 2011 I collected fabrics of places I went that would remind me of my holiday with the intention of making a quilt using them.  They haven't made it that far yet, they just look pretty on my shelf.  Maybe this year will be the year.

 

 

 

 

I have everything set aside for this quilt.  The top is made, the back is pieced, the binding fabric is set aside but it's still not done.  Good thing I have a resolution to #FinishIt2015 too!

 



 

A Cheerio quilt using Bliss and Miss Kate, I think they work well together!

 



 

I've had this fabric (Along with solids) for a Come What May quilt for my nephew for ages! He has a fire engine bed and it would look adorable!

 

 

 

I also have this pile.  It is very precious!  I am a bit of a Sweetwater fan.  I would love a pure Jelly Roll too, maybe one day!

Handmade Tuesday #1 - Simply Color Pencil Skirt

Towards the end of last year I started a personal challenge of wearing something handmade every Tuesday.  I'm not really sure why I settled on Tuesday but I think it started by coincidence as I wore handmade items for a few Tuesdays in a row and decided to try and make it habbit.

I started chronicling them on instagram using #handmadetuesday.  #Adventuresindressmaking and #handmadeclothing also feature on most of my garment making related posts. 

This week, for my first week back at work after a lovely three weeks of holidays I am wearing a skirt I whipped up towards the end of last week.

The skirt is made from the Dot Print from Simply Color by V and Co for Moda.  I'm fairly certain it's long out of print but you might be able to track it down somewhere still.  It is lined with Pongee Lining from Spotlight.  Not the best but it was in my stash and using it was better than having to buy something else.

I drafted a pencil skirt pattern using this tutorial from Simple Simon and Company.  I found it really helpful with clear detailed instructions.  I would also recommend checking out their Pencil Skirt Sew Along for more helpful tips and tricks

This tutorial also from Simple Simon and Company was also incredibly helpful for inserting an invisible zipper with lining.  It was my first time attempting this properly and I am incredibly pleased it worked.  I'm very proud of this.  This time last year I didn't sew clothes because the curves scared me! Not to mention Zippers!

Overall I am very happy with how it turned out! Though my favourite bit might be the selvedge hidden in the hem! In an effort to use a little fabric as possible while getting a decent length I cut the bottom of the skirt right on the selvedge and just turned it over and stitched it down. Cute and thrifty!
